Clinical information
Understanding the diagnosis
Nerve-root compression can cause pain from the neck into the arm, tingling, sensory loss or weakness. Spinal-cord involvement may cause loss of hand dexterity or walking problems.
MRI shows the anatomy, but a disc finding alone does not explain every symptom. The clinical distribution helps identify the responsible level.
Symptoms and context
Symptoms that require assessment
- Pain radiating into the arm
- Tingling or loss of sensation
- Loss of strength in the hand or arm
- Loss of dexterity or balance
- Persistent symptoms despite conservative treatment
Case review
Second opinion
A second opinion can review whether the symptoms and MRI findings correspond, whether surgery is indicated, and which approach and type of reconstruction are most appropriate.
